Whenever Mike says 'the czar and his ministers' my mind immediately goes to Sympathy For The Devil.

Telling ,,war is over" before a peace treaty means surrounding not negotiations. So now the czar might speak about defending Russia like Vladivostok.
Thank you for the great podcast.

"When you think you're out in the front of the pack, but really you're being lapped."

Completely unrelated to the podcast or to history at all, but ha, it's funny seeing this immediately after listening to a Beyond the Grid podcast episode with former F1 driver Rubens Barrichello. One of the most memorable parts of that episode is about this exact thing happening to him in one race.

After all these years with Rome first and Revolutions second I finally catched up with the podcast - and it's a strange feeling to have to wait for a new one.

On this occasion I want to loudly thank you for the years of great show. That's first.

Second is a feeling of suprise - I was teached of it in school, I've read it in books for dozens of times and my observation is I always thought Russia to be similiar to other absolutist powers behind partition of Poland - namely Austria and Prussia. They seemed to be somewhat aware of what they were doing in internal and international politics.

Never expected to Russia be this delusional on so many levels, so unprepared, oblivious and backward in terms of proper state mechanics.

Currently I listen the show with open mouth and only think they cannot have been this inept... yet they were.
